What is a Key Investor Information Document (KIID)?

The 1985 European UCITS Directive was created to form a single EU market for investment funds. This Directive laid down a set of regulatory requirements which investment funds must comply with to be eligible to be sold across borders within the EU.

There have been several amendments to the Directive over time, few more notable than the introduction of the Key Investor Information Document, which will become a legal requirement on July 1, 2011.

The new Key Investor Information Document (KIID) is a two-page pre-sales document which replaces the Simplified Prospectus. The KIID contains concise descriptions of key fund information, including:

·       a short description of its investment objectives and policy
·       presentation of past performance or performance scenarios
·       costs and associated charges
·       the risk/reward profile of the investment, including guidance and
        warnings

The KIID must be written in the local language of each country in which a fund is sold.
